Sketching

Researching and sketching early ideas
Sketch to try out joining techniques and possibilities.
Sketches of design and materials
Sketch to visualize, ideate and understand the construction and design of the frame
The design had to support modularity for it to be a circular and sustainable product.
Sketch of how the stool joints look like, both with glue and with wedges.
Merged some different ideas into a frame that would be modular and easy to manufacture.
There are a total of 6 horizontal wedges fastening 3 boards into the side pieces.
Before prototyping I added a radius to the wedge to increase the strength on the weak part of the joint.

Prototyping

Makine a cardboard version of the piece i need to know more about and test if it will work.
Prototyping joints with wastewood (precut 45 mm), these are discarded later.
Using a marking gauge on a planed piece of pine for the final prototype
Drilling a hole through the corner of 2 glued pieces and then using a chisel to make it square.
Trying out the joint before preparing for the wedges.
Milling a slot for the removable seat.
Making the frame for the seat.
First time weaving a seat.
The stool is treated with cold pressed linseed oil.
